- Regular Inspection of Related Components:
- Dust Boot Inspection: It is recommended to inspect the steering gear dust boot every 20,000 kilometers or so. If damage or aging is found, replace it in a timely manner to prevent dust, debris and moisture from entering the interior of the steering gear.
- Protective Cover Inspection: Inspect the condition of the protective covers connecting the steering gear (on both sides and upper part) to the universal cross shaft at least once a month. If damage is found, replacement must be done immediately. A comprehensive inspection and maintenance of the steering gear should also be carried out before replacement.
- Ensure Normal Power Steering Fluid:
- For hydraulic power steering systems, it is recommended to replace the power steering fluid every 3 years or 60,000 kilometers. In daily inspections, if the power steering fluid is insufficient or dirty, it should also be replaced promptly.
- Meanwhile, check the power steering fluid level every six months to ensure it is within the normal range.
- Develop Good Driving Habits:
- Avoid turning the steering wheel when the vehicle is stationary.
- Try to straighten the wheels when parking.
- During driving, avoid sudden steering and over-steering.
- Slow down when passing through bumpy roads to reduce the impact on the steering gear.
- Regular Comprehensive Maintenance:
- Conduct a comprehensive maintenance of the steering gear every 100,000 kilometers or so, which includes thorough cleaning and refilling with special grease (ordinary grease cannot meet the requirements).
- Pay Attention to Special Cases:
- For steering gears with electronic power steering systems, avoid driving through water as much as possible to prevent damage caused by water entering related sensors.
- If abnormal conditions such as heavy steering, abnormal noise or deviation occur when turning the steering wheel, go to a professional auto repair shop for inspection and maintenance in a timely manner.
